Hamburg is dynamic, diverse, and constantly in motion. After developing four distinct restaurant concepts in this city, I asked myself a fundamental question: How do you create a space that combines the warm ease of a cozy dinner with the elegance of inspiring encounters?
We found the answer right at the intersection of Eppendorf and Winterhude—standing shoulder to shoulder with the iconic, traditional theater Komödie Winterhuder Fährhaus: MAI Restaurant.
M.A.I. – A Name as a Promise
M.A.I. stands for Meet And Inspire. Being directly adjacent to one of Hamburg’s most cherished cultural landmarks is not a coincidence; it is part of our philosophy. Culture and fine dining naturally belong together. MAI is a vibrant gathering place—for an inspiring pre-theater aperitif, an elegant dinner after the final curtain, warm family weekends, or creative exchanges between business partners.
Opposites in Perfect Harmony
This philosophy shapes our kitchen as well. We believe that food connects people. Our Asian Tapas and Fusion-Sushi creations are crafted for sharing (Sharing Concept)—because enjoyment is best experienced together. To add unique depth to traditional Asian recipes, we blend them with the precision of modern European techniques such as Sous-Vide, Confit, and Combi-Steaming. The result is an honest, masterfully crafted cuisine set within a warm, sophisticated ambiance.

The vision of Meet And Inspire reaches its full expression in our spacious event area on the second floor.
